Small & Medium cities now eligible for EUI CALL: Driving innovation at a local level

2026-01-12

SMALL & MEDIUM SIZED CITIES (more than 25.000 inhabitants) are now eligible for participating in

a EUI Innovative Actions CALL: "Driving innovation at a local level"

The European Urban Initiative (EUI) will launch a new call for Innovative Actions in early 2026. Within these Innovative Actions, cities will receive financial support and guidance to test innovative solutions to complex urban challenges in practice. The call is open to all cities, but focuses specifically on: small and medium-sized cities, cities with limited experience with EU funds, and cities that are eager to test new solutions but have little experience with innovation.

With a total budget of approximately €60 million from the ERDF, there is room to support around 30 projects across Europe. The EUI Dutch Urban Contact Point will share the latest updates during our Europe Day 2026 on January 28th in Utrecht, the Netherlands. We will also discuss how this call differs from previous rounds for Innovative Actions. We will also organize an online information session when the call opens.

Does your city needs knowledge and financial help in finding solutions for:

  • local & urban challenges?
  • participating in project partnerships?
  • strengthen internal innovation capacity?

This is your chance to get the necessary resources for your city to increase innovative solutions.

Please find information about this call here. Or follow updates on the EUI Dutch Urban Contact Point website here.

Early 2026 the call will be open for application.
